Lot 153

1836 N-1 R1+ PCGS graded MS64+ Red & Brown. Frosty mint red fading to light steel brown with about half the mellowing mint color remaining visible on both sides. The only marks are faint traces of an old fingerprint in the field before the portrait and a tiny swipe of darker brown toning under the E in AMERICA. This cent would rate a higher grade if the strike was sharper, but there is obvious weakness on the lowest curl at star 13 and on parts of the wreath. LDS with die cracks on both sides, including a bisecting crack from the first S in STATES to the R in AMERICA extending to the dentils over both letters. Graded MS63 and CC#2 in the Bland census. Our grade is MS60+, close to MS62. The attribution and Brown-Ahumada provenance are noted on the PCGS label. PCGS population 1; the finest RB of the variety at both services. PCGS #37112. Estimate Value $1,500 - UP
