Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 96

Lot 805

1920-S. PCGS graded MS-65+. A hint of light tone on both sides over frosty luster. A rare coin in this grade as this is one of the finest known of the date and mint, surpassed by only a single coin at the MS-66 level. As a date, 1920 San Francisco Buffalo nickels are plentiful enough in lower grades, but so few were saved that Mint State survivors always command attention when found in grades even approaching the gem level. Most seen are poorly struck by worn dies, somewhat visible here where minute striations appear in the fields from die wear. This towering coin is not only handsome, but technically superior to nearly every other 1920-S Buffalo nickel known. It belongs in one of the finest collections in the land. Pop 1; 1 finer in 66. (PCGS # 3946) Estimate Value $40,000 - 44,000
