Tojo, Hideki, 5 Personal Possessions Including Hanko Stamp, Polished Walnut & Epaulette with Exceptional Provenance. (December 30, 1884 to December 23, 1948) Hideki Tojo, a general of the Imperial Japanese Army (IJA), the leader of the Imperial Rule Assistance Association, and the 40th Prime Minister of Japan from October 17, 1941 to July 22, 1944. Tojo infamously initiated war with the United States by ordering the bombing of Pearl Harbor. After the unconditional surrender of Japan, a suicide attempt, and an international tribunal, Tojo was sentenced to death on November 12, 1948 and executed by hanging a month later .Offered here is a collection of items owned by Tojo, for years in the private collection of a staff sergeant and interpreter for the American occupational forces in Japan at the end of World War II. Orginially obtained from the caretaker of Tojo's home in Shibuya, the Army Staff Sergeant held these items in his possession for his lifetime. They have now been consigned ot Goldberg Collectibles by his son. 1.) Tojo's hanko stamp virtually has remained in its original condition save for two known inked impressions made of the stamp to confirm the name Tojo 4 x 3 x 3 cm. 2.) Polished walnut of Tojo's. Vintage polished walnuts are a significant collectible in China and Japan, walnut measures 4 x 4 x 4 cm and has been polished to a deep caramel color in imaculate condition. 3.) One of Tojo's Lieut. General epaulettes from the late 1930s, finally 4.) a key stamped TENPO, Tokyo and the number 39 C. Absolutely no knowledge whatsoever what it opened, but was part of the items received. Also included a string of wooden beads that seemingly appear modern but have been in the collection as well as the handkerchiefs the items were wrapped for decades. Collection comes with a detailed history of the pieces and the history of the Staff Sergeant stationed in Japan at General Headquraters and how these came to be in his possession 70+ years ago. $8,500
