Mercury Freedom 7, Alan Shepard -- Randall Knife. This small 2 ½" long knife is embedded in a clear Lucite disc 4 ¼" in diameter that reads "1st Knife in Space" and "Carried by Cmdr. Shepard May 5, 1961 / Randall Made Knives, Orlando Florida." The Randall Knife Co. supplied a handmade knife to each of the Mercury 7 astronauts which were carried on their missions. This item was created to promote the knife that Alan Shepard carried aboard Freedom 7. It is unknown how many of these were initially produced but it is likely that only a few are still in existence today and are highly collectible. Piece very well maintained over the decades as lucite virtually free of scratches. $800 - 1,200
