Villa, Francisco (Pancho), Remarkable Collection of Vintage Original Photographs. Born José Doroteo Arango (1878-1923), "Pancho" Villa was a Mexican Revolutionary general and one of the most prominent figures of the Mexican Revolution. The material in this collection comes from the estate of Barry Hogarty (1876-1971), who was kidnapped by Villa and his men while working in Mexico and subsequently released, but not before the two became good friends. Many of the photos were most likely taken by Hogarty. Interesting images of Pancho Villa on horseback with his officers, one with his secretary and another with friends at a pool wearing a swimsuit. Every photo has notations on verso. When newspapers reported Hogarty's release, it was not known if a ransom was paid. One of the photos settles the matter, as it depicts Villa with the man who delivered the funds. A total of 15 black & white photos of Pancho Villa with sizes ranging from 3¼ x 2½" to 3¼ x 5½" two duplicates, one with an arrow pointing to Villa and another with his name in pen. In addition there are 10 black & white photos in the same sizes of Hogarty and his family as well as documentation and history in the form of newspaper clippings, his membership certificates as a Freemason, and the first two pages of the memorial book from his funeral. Obviously, this collection was carefully assembled by a family member. Estimated Value $800 - 1,200
