Meade, George G (1815-1872). United States Army officer and engineer who served as a Union general in the American Civil War. He is best known for defeating Confederate General Robert E. Lee at the Battle of Gettysburg in 1863. Signed engraved portrait ("Geo. G. Meade / Maj. Genl. U.S.A."), 6 x 5" elongated roundel with decorative framing device, inset lunette of the Battle of Gettysburg, and 1½ x 4¼" signature plate on a 7¼ x 10½" sheet, n.p., n.d. Engraving after a Brady Ambrotype, engraved and published by John C. Yornston & Co., Philadelphia. Some toning, with water damage to the lower half of the sheet, but the signature remains bold. In good condition. Estimated Value $500 - 600
