Authentic 1996 Centennial Olympic Games Run Torch, Atlanta, Georgia. Authentic 1996 Olympic Torch for the 1996 Centennial Olympic Games held in Atalanta, Georgia. Made of 22 aluminum reeds, one for each of the Summer Olympic Games held to the date, wrapped in a 3½" gold-plated brass band etched with 1996 Olympic Games logo, Georgia pecan wood for the handles, kiln-dried, stained and finished by Louisville Slugger, the Kentucky-based maker of baseball bats, and finally the base, constructed in three parts that turned on the propylene fuel tank that could burn for up to 45 minutes, adorned with another band etched with the names of the past host cities of The Games. The torch, the tallest in history at 32" and weighing 3½ pounds assembled by the American Meter Company in Erie, Pa., who created over 10,000 torches, one for each of the runners who relayed The Flame. Comes in a handsome custom wood presentation cabinet 40" x 11" x 5" that doubles as a hanging display and a 128 page commemorative hardback book with hundreds of photos and information about the Torch Relay. In superior condition, with scorch marks still visible on aluminum tips.
