Repossé Gold Mask Ring, ca. 4th-3rd Century BC. An ancient Greek gold miniature male mask mounted in a modern 18+ Kt gold ring setting. The repossé mask bears several tiny holes on at its edges (only visible from the back) indicating that it was originally used as an appliqué attachment to a larger piece of jewelry or clothing. Measures: 3.75 ring size; Weighs: 11.1 gm.
Estimated Value $1,500 - 2,000.
It is part of a group of three appliques from the Le Clerque Collection, Paris. Published in Indianapolis Museum of Art Catalog, Summer, 1974, Vol. I, No. 4, Pl. 38 (middle photograph P.262).
