Lot 98

1805 C-2 R5 Small 5 with Stems G6. Very slightly sharper but there is a collection of small contact marks around the ear plus a couple more small marks in the field before the neck and a trio of minor rim nicks at TY in LIBERTY. Nice glossy medium chocolate brown with a small area of darker olive brown toning near the rim left of the hair ribbon. There is a hint of subtle swelling in the field before the portrait and HALF CENT is gone, as usual with this variety. The reverse is rotated 15 degrees CCW. A nice lower grade example of this very rare variety, clearly the rarest variety of the year.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex New England Rare Coin Galleries FPL 4/24/1978 (NERCG ticket included showing it was offered as VG8).

Realized $2,350
