Lot 16

1793 C-1 R3+ Liberty Cap, Head Left G5. Glossy dark olive brown and steel. The obverse sharpness is slightly better showing a strong date and full LIBERTY, but the reverse is a bit more worn inside the wreath due to minor swelling (which is typical for all but the earliest die state of this variety). The surfaces are smooth, void of any trace of corrosion or verdigris. The only marks are some hairline scratches on the obverse (all blended perfectly into the toning) and a single fine scratch through the first S in STATES into the upper part of the wreath. Only this single scratch is visible without the aid of a good glass. MDS, Manley state 2.0, with swelling in the center of the reverse that caused HALF CENT to be worn smooth. Overall a very nice example for the grade. Weight 102.8 grains.
Estimated Value $1,500-UP.
Ex Jim McGuigan 8/1980.

Realized $3,995
