1796 C-2 R4 With Pole PCGS Genuine AU Details Scratch. Very attractive frosty medium chocolate and light olive brown with traces of lighter brown and tan toning in protected areas. No spots, stains, or planchet defects. Looks choice to the unaided eye, but a glass reveals a half dozen hairline scratches meandering through the obverse fields, all blending perfectly into the very attractive toning. The reverse is flawless. The fields are smooth and slightly reflective suggesting this piece was struck early in the die marriage. Our grade is EF40 sharpness net VF30. A very impressive example of the date in spite of the imperfections. And it comes with a long, very impressive provenance. Weight 84.2 grains.
Estimated Value $40,000-UP.
