Lot 708

1848 N-21 R3-. PCGS graded MS-65 Red & Brown. CAC Approved. Beautiful lustrous mint red just starting to fade to steel brown on the highpoints, about 80% of the mint red remaining (90% on the obverse, 70% on the reverse). Has to be very close to a "RED" designation. The only marks are some microscopic specks of dark toning scattered over the obverse. A speck between the 1 & 8 and another directly under the 1 are good identifying marks, but it takes a glass to see them. M-LDS, die state d. The tops of the C & E in CENT are joined by crumbling and the field outside the wreath is starting to rise around the legend, but the vertical die lines right of the T in CENT are still clear. A gem example of this variety that offers outstanding eye appeal. Our grade is consistent with the slab grade. Finest known for the variety in the Grellman census.
Estimated Value $3,000-UP.

Realized $3,878
