Lot 224

1793 S-5 R4 Wreath Cent with Large Date & LIBERTY Basal State-1. Variety with a Vine & Bars Edge. Slightly sharper but there is an attempted hole at the top of the head and evidence of a hammer blow across the forehead. Perhaps someone was attempting to hammer a nail through the cent and attach it above the entrance to their home (which was popular at one time). Glossy medium chocolate brown. Most of LIBERTY and the portrait remain visible, and the leaves over the date are clear, but most of the reverse legends are gone. Fortunately there is more than enough remaining to make a positive attribution.
Estimated Value $200-UP.

Realized $400
