Lot 2024

1872-CC. PCGS graded AU-50. Comparatively clean surfaces with a deep honey-gold appearance. Some typical scattered ticks are seen with the unaided eye, but nothing overly detracting is noted. From a very small mintage of just 4,600 pieces, every known survivor from that mintage has circulated to some degree. The vast majority of known examples are VF to XF, with true AU specimens few and far between. In fact, this date is seldom offered in any grade -- perhaps only 70 to 80 pieces can be accounted for today. Those who specialize in Liberty eagles or Carson City gold will be very pleased to know this high-grade specimen is currently in the auction marketplace. Notably, neither NGC nor PCGS has graded a single Mint State example of the 1872-CC eagle. Pop 7; 9 finer, 2 in 53, 3 in 55, 4 in 58. (PCGS # 8664) .
Estimated Value $18,000 - 20,000.

Realized $17,625
