1839-O. PCGS graded Fine-15. The New Orleans Mint began operations in 1838. The half dollars struck there in 1838 and 1839 prominently display the "O" mintmark on the obverse above the date in the exergue. Beginning in 1840 on half dollars, the mintmark would be switched to the reverse under the eagle. Well, but evenly worn with some deep peripheral toning on each side. One diagonal mark is mentioned on Liberty's cheek (PCGS # 6181) .
