Confederate Discharge For A Gold Miner. Partly-printed document signed by Capt. J.H. Craven, Commanding Co. G., 8th Regt. 3rd Brigade, Georgia State Infantry, 8½ x 7", Camp Walker, Jan. 20, 1862. Being a discharge for Simon J. Dean, a private in Craven's company, by reason of inability to perform military duty. Dean was born in Oakham, Massachusetts and was a gold miner by profession but was fighting for the Confederacy. He signed on the verso in receipt of $26.77 due him for pay and clothing. The discharge was approved by Lt. Col John S. Fain, Commanding 8th Regt., G.S.I. Light toning, else fine.
