Padover, Office of the Secretary of the Interior: "Harold Ickes has sent me the copy of your 'JEFFERSON'. I am very grateful to you for sending me this tremendously interesting book and I have already begun to read it…." Bold signature. Fine. Accompanied by the original transmittal envelope. Harold Ickes was FDR's Secretary of the Interior for his entire administration and was responsible for implementing many of the President's "New Deal" policies.
