Sicily, Syracuse. Deinomenid Tyranny. Fourée Tetradrachm (14.6 g), 485-466 BC. Struck under Gelon I, ca. 480-478 BC. Charioteer, holding reigns and kentron, driving slow quadriga right; above, Nike flying right crowning horses with wreath. Reverse: ΣVRAK-OΣI-ON, diademed head of Arethusa right, wearing pearl necklace; around, four dolphins clockwise. Boehringer series Viiia, 107 (V49/R73); Randazzo grp. 3, 263-4 (same dies); SNG ANS -. A pleasing example with light greyish toning. Extremely Fine.
