Lot 5004

1795 Liberty Cap Half Cent. Lettered edge, with pole. MS-63 Brown. This is the famous Brobston/Reale coin. The surfaces have been carefully cleaned and expertly retoned at some time in the distant past, and the coin is now light brown in color. It is struck slightly off-center to the lower right on the obverse, and is identifiable by a small planchet flake between the ball and loupe of the 9 in the date, and three shallow marks on Liberty, one on her jaw line, another in the middle of her neck, and the last below her ear. Excellent rims on both sides, with a tiny tick below the bust tip on the obverse. The reverse devices, fields and rims are superbly preserved. All is well struck too, with full details on Liberty's curls and the upper leaf tips. Obviously this is a very special coin with a wonderful pedigree, and presents a great opportunity for astute numismatists.
Estimated Value $15,000-UP.
