Lot 159

1796 S-82 R5 Liberty Cap F15. Ten points sharper but there are microscopic specks of greenish verdigris in protected areas, mostly on the reverse. Looks nice to the unaided eye, and the crud is not distracting. The only marks are some extremely faint scratches under the patina at BERTY and UNIT. Slightly glossy chocolate and olive brown. EDS, Breen state I, before any die cracks. The date is bold and the legends are strong except for UNITED, which was softly struck. A decent example of a variety that's difficult to find in high grade, this piece near the lower end of the condition census. Estimated Value $2,000-UP

Ex Fred H. Borcherdt 3/2001-Dan Trollan.
