1897. NGC graded Proof 66 Red. CAC Approved. This is a stunning example with deep mirrors and frosty devices. Graded prior to NGC giving the "Cameo" designation to Proofs. This has beautiful "Orange-peel" fields. Orange-peel is seen on gold and copper coins in areas where they have highly polished mirrors. The effect is caused by the high annealing tempurtures used to soften silver and nickel planchets. When used on copper and gold, the too-high oven setting tends to crystalize the metal giving it the look of galvanized steel. To collectors of Proofs, it is highly desired.
