Lot 252

1796 S-82 R5 Liberty Cap F12 but Counterstamped. Choice glossy chocolate brown with smooth, very attractive surfaces. Unfortunately for cent collectors (but fortunately for collectors of old counterstamps) there is a strong counterstamp covering most of the portrait. The stamp is "IW" in raised letters inside a depressed rectangle. The origin of this stamp is unknown but it looks quite old (and being stamped on such a nice 1796 cent supports the age theory). The date and legends outside the wreath are strong.
Estimated Value $250-UP.

Realized $460
