Lot 250

Pair of Double Struck 1795 S-78 Plain Edge Cents. The first grades G5 (VG7 on the obverse, AG3 on the reverse) with smooth, glossy brown surfaces. It shows clear doubling on the obverse with a shift between strikes of at least a half millimeter. The reverse shows no doubling, which suggests it was pressed into a second planchet creating an obverse brockage. The second example is rougher and grades net Fair-2, but the shift between strikes was larger, 2 to 3 millimeters, and doubling shows on both sides. The first strike was centered and the second off center to K-11. In addition this one has a curved planchet clip at TY in LIBERTY. The date is strong on the first, weaker but readable on the second. Lot of 2 coins.
Estimated Value $150-UP.
Ex Carvin Goodridge collection.
