Lot 162

1787 Fugio Cent Newman 13-X Rarity-2 PCGS graded MS64 Brown. A STATES UNITED variety. Lustrous bluish steel and chocolate with traces of faded mint red remaining on both sides. Satiny mint frost covers the planchet and there is no trace of friction or contact. The only defects are some of the usual microscopic planchet chips near the rim on the obverse and a larger chip out of the planchet on the rim at K-3.5 on the reverse. This piece offers excellent eye appeal. Most likely from the famous Bank of New York Hoard of mint state FUGIO Cents. A common variety, even in mint state, but this example is far better than normal for the type. A great type coin. Comes with a certification signed by Walter Breen where he calls this piece "choice." Listed on page 87 in the "Redbook."
Estimated Value $2,500-UP.
The Arden Collection.
