Lot 1517

1847-C $5 Liberty. NGC graded EF-45. Lightly toned, golden-orange in color. Slightly more definition on the eagle than is common with Charlotte Mint fives, the chief area of weakness is on the neck feathers and shield clarity, both of which suffered insufficient metal flow into the die recesses. A hallmark of many C as well as D-mint dates in this series. There is a small mark above the eyebrow as well as the usual circulation abrasions in the field and elsewhere, consistent with the grade (PCGS # 8223) .
Estimated Value $1,500 - 1,600.
The Arden Collection.

Realized $2,128
