Lot 1485

1878 $3 Gold. PCGS graded MS-64. A beautiful golden example, loaded with original mint luster. This is a splendid vivid golden specimen of the unusual $3 denomination with Indian Princess design. Liberty is decked out in a fancy feather-plumed headpiece, with the word LIBERTY on the headband. The golden iridescence and sparkle is plain on both sides. Well struck for the date, certainly much better-quality than some similar high-end examples offered in recent years; we find it worthy of strong bidder attention. The $3 coins were made from 1854 to 1889 but usually in small numbers. The chief popularly collected dates if one wishes a Type coins are this 1878, and the 1854 or 1874 issues (PCGS # 8000) .
Estimated Value $5,500 - 6,000.

Realized $8,625
