Michael VII and Maria of Georgia, 1071-1078. Pale Gold (Electrum) Tetarteron (4.00g). Facing bust of the Theotokos, orans, holding medallion with the nimbate bust of the infant Christ. Reverse: Half-length facing figures of Michael VII, wearing loros and crown with pendilia, and Maria, daughter of the Georgian king Bagrat IV, wearing loros with collar piece and a crown with pinnacles and pendilia, holding between them a long cross with a crescent and pellet and X on the shaft. D.O. 5; S.1872. An excellent example of this scarce type. Choice Very Fine.
