Hadrian, AD 117-138. Gold Aureus (7.29g). Minted in Rome, AD 137. Bare head of Hadrian facing right. Reverse: VOTA PVBLICA, Hadrian standing left sacrificing over tripod-altar of which stand boy attendant, flute-player, attendant with staff, and victimarius about to sacrifice bull. RIC 289; BMC 776 (same dies); Calico 1404; Sear 3425. NGC graded Choice Fine*; Strike: 5/5, Surface: 3/5. Fine style. A pleasing coin for the grade. Very rare.

The Vicennalia were celebrations to mark the 20th anniversary of Hadrian's accession.
