Lot 141

1795 C-5b R4 Thick Planchet AG3. Struck on a planchet cut from a spoiled (or spare) large cent planchet. Glossy medium steel brown and light chocolate. Smooth and quite nice for the grade, just well worn. The only marks are a few small spots of darker chocolate and olive brown toning near the 1 in the date. The date is weak, as usual with the thick planchet strikes, but the 179 can be made out rather easily. The portrait and LIBERTY are clear, and the bisecting die crack across the reverse is obvious. Weight 116.6 grains (versus the thin planchet standard of 84.0 grains).
Estimated Value $200-UP.

Realized $805
