Lot 241

Two Illuminated Manuscript Music Leaves. Hand-inscribed leaves on vellum, one 20 x 14" and one 20 x 13½", each with six lines of music written in black ink with red accents. The five-line stave is in red ink, as is the border. Antiphonals were choir books used by priests, monks and nuns in churches and religious enclaves; the word "antiphonal" is from a Greek word meaning "sung in response." The large size allowed them to be seen by multiple members of a choral section. Age yellowing to vellum.
Estimated Value $300 - 400.

Realized $180
