Lot 1148

1835. NGC graded MS-63. A nice frosty coin. This head style has the first curl, at upper left, much smaller than previous styles. Liberty's head is smaller than before. This was the final modification prepared by William Kneass, with Christian Gobrecht taking responsibility the next year.

This delightful choice example has frosty devices and satiny fields. Both surfaces are brilliant with lots of bold detail at the stars and rims. A touch of striking softness is noted on the high points of the obverse around Liberty's ear, but most other design features are sharp including the majority of the eagle's feathers. The presently offered MS63 example ranks among the finer extant. Pop 14; 7 finer, 6 in 64, 1 in 65 (PCGS # 7693) .
Estimated Value $7,000 - 7,500.
