Edison, Thomas Alva (1847 - 1931) Inventor of the phonograph (1877), the carbon-filament light bulb (1879), and motion picture equipment; altogether he held patents for over 1,000 inventions. Small green buckram bound volume, Edison Pioneers- Constitution and by-Laws 1918, 6¾ x 4¾ inches. The frontispiece is a vintage photograph of Edison signed "Thos A Edison" beneath the image. Inscribed on the title page, "To my dear grandson Frederick Kingsbury White Dec.25/1918. Fredk A.Scheffley who first suggested 'Edison Pioneers' and organized same Jany 28-1918. His association with Mr. Edison began May 30th, 1881." Scheffler has also inscribed an illustration of "Edison's Second Electric Locomotive and Trailer…" with "Designed by Fredk A.Scheffler" appearing opposite page 5. According to the by-laws the "…objects of this Association are to bring together for social and intellectual intercourse the men who were associated with Thomas A. Edison in the days prior to 1886 in his work of invention and experimentation in the arts and sciences…" It was also meant to pay tribute to Edison. Scheffler was Treasurer of the group. This is the only example of this book we have seen.
