Goldberg Coins and Collectibles

Sale 65

Lot 1956

1914. NGC graded Proof 64. Well struck and untoned. Only 117 Matte Proofs struck. A lovely sandblast finish is noted on this issue. Walter Breen explained that the 1914 comes with a slightly coarser finish than the 1913 issue and often will appear a shade darker. The slightly coarser surfaces of this fresh 1914 are well worth studying with a magnifier. The luster on this 1914 Proof is outstanding, as well, and much more radiant than often seen on any Proof gold of this type. The only marks mentionable, solely for the purpose of future pedigree research, is a small line extending up from the 4th star and a little indentation between the 2nd and 3rd stars. Unquestionably one of the choicer ones in existence. The census is as follows: Pop 25; 41 finer (PCGS # 7963) .
Estimated Value $10,000 - 11,000.

Realized $12,650
