Sale 65

Lot 1414

1939-D. NGC graded MS-67. Mostly brilliant white. In an older holder. All American coinage at the turn of the 20th century was set to be changed in an effort started by President Theodore Roosevelt. The half dollar of 1916-47 succeeded the unpopular and often ridiculed Barber half dollar (1892-1915). This coin along with the Mercury dime (which Weinman also designed) and Standing Liberty Quarter eliminated the uniform design that was a tradition of American coinage since the mint opened in 1793. Pop 83; 2 in 68.
Estimated Value $850 - 900.

Realized $1,035
