1877. NGC graded MS-65 Red & Brown. Traces of mint red on both sides. The Key Date in the Indian Head series. This is an outstanding gem example with sultry red and brown luster assisted by a better than average strike. At present there are limited numbers of Gem Mint State 1877s graded by NGC (see below) and to supply the growing legions of Indian cent collectors. The obverse is virtually mark free as is the reverse, while the reverse does show light striking definition in the lower wreath although the shield is complete. This example is a carefully graded one and clearly earns special mention where originality is concerned. Pop 75; 8 in 66 RB.
