Lot 58

1843 N-9 R2 AU55. Frosty light brown with slightly darker steel brown toning on the highpoints and hints of very faded mint color in protected areas of the obverse. Satiny, virtually mark free with only a hint of friction on the highest points of the design. The only marks are a tiny, very light nick close under star 7 and a speck of darker olive toning left of star 12. A choice cent with mint state eye appeal. LDS, die state c, with a strong rim cud break at stars 6-7, smaller ones at stars 1-2, and a thin one at star 8, plus a clear rim cud break at the U in UNITED. The repunching under the 843 is dull but still visible. Removed from an NGC slab graded MS64BN (NGC label included, and it shows the attribution and Reiver provenance). DWH #2964.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
Ex Henry C. Hines-Floyd T. Starr, Stack’s 6/14/84:434-Jules Reiver, Heritage 1/24/06:20182.
