Lot 451

1851 N-20 R3 Repunched 1's MS64. Slightly faded mint red mellowing to light bluish steel brown, at least half the red remaining, especially on the obverse. The only marks, and they are trivial, are a small spot of darker toning on the rim at star 1, another inside the top of the 8, and a third in the dentils at star 11. LDS, die sate c, Newcomb's old #28. The tops of the C & E in CENT are joined by crumbling and the repunching on the 1’s is gone or nearly so. Tied for finest known honors with one other example, and this piece has a bit more mint color. A really nice cent. DWH #2207.
Estimated Value $500-UP.
Ex McCawley & Grellman Auctions 8/14/92:275-R. E. Naftzger, Jr. (via Bill Noyes) 1/10/03.
