Lot 292

1848 N-20 R3 Repunched 48 MS60. Glossy golden light olive brown and tan. Possibly dipped long ago but the luster and eye appeal are attractive. There is a tiny nick over the I in LIBERTY and a very tiny rim nick at the I in UNITED, plus an extremely faint lamination in the field close under star 4, as struck. MDS, die state b. The repunching on the 48 remains sharp but the tops of C & E in CENT are joined by crumbling. Tied for CC#4 with several other examples in the Grellman census. Comes with a nice provenance. DWH #2095.
Estimated Value $300-UP.
