1882. NGC graded Proof 68 Cameo. A fully untoned and superlative gem. Only 1,100 Proofs struck. Swirls of mirror-deep luster flicker when light hits the coin, while the richer texture than average on frosty devices draws attention. Next a word or two about the strike. What inspection shows is that the pressure transmitted from the die to the blank left behind a fantastic razor-sharp impression. All design elements are bold: Liberty's gown and hair, the shield as well as all legends, and on the reverse, Longacre's imaginative Cereal Wreath rises up in sharp, cameo relief against a delightfully sleek field.
