Lot 657

1793 C-4 R3 PCGS graded AU50. Glossy chocolate brown with lighter steel brown toning in the protected areas. Excellent eye appeal, although there are a couple marks. The most-notable mark is a foldover planchet lamination reaching down into the field right of the cap. The lamination begins at the rim left of the I in LIBERTY and reaches around the dentil tips to the top of the cap where it turns down into the field. The lamination was struck into the field and now shows only a fine outline at its margins. The only other mark is a tiny scratch off the tip of the bust. The reverse is void of any notable defects. MDS, Manley state 2.0. Tiny lumps caused by die rust are scattered over the obverse, including one up from the top of the 7. Struck slightly off center to K-3 leaving some of the border beads off the planchet on the reverse. A nice example of our first Federal half cent. Our grade is VF35. Pop 16; 70 finer at PCGS in BN.
Estimated Value $15,000-UP.
