Lot 1094

1847 N-21 R1 MS60+. Glossy light olive and steel with 5-10% of the faded mint color remaining, mostly on the reverse. The surfaces are satiny but the obverse is coated with a very thin layer of "Care" or some similar protective substance (which could be removed if desired). There are traces of dirt in the dentils at star 4 and a bit more in the dentils over NI in UNITED. Otherwise this piece is free of defects. LDS, die state b, with a die crack at ME (Newcomb's old #40).
