Lot 2257

1899 $10. NGC graded MS-63. Lovely subtle golden toning, the fields awash in nice luster.

News of 1899: A now almost-forgotten Peace Conference was held in 1899 at The Hague in the Netherlands. Much ballyhooed in its day, little came of the negotiations, other than perhaps the consumption of vast amounts of fine wine, lobster and steak dinners by the delegates. In 1899, the U.S. was involved in a war in the Philippines (1898-1913), Britain and Australia were busy shooting at Boers in South Africa (1899-1902), The Boxer Rebellion (more properly called the Boxer Uprising, or the "Righteous Harmony Society Movement") was at its height in China (1899-1901), while down south in Columbia was being fought the Thousand Days War (1899-1902).
Estimated Value $1,250 - 1,300.

Realized $1,380
