Lot 1588

1936 Norfolk Half Dollar. PCGS graded MS-68. A pristine gem example with a touch of toning on the obverse. From the standpoint of obscure remembrances, the 1936 Norfolk half dollar takes first prize, or at least is a second runner-up. The so-called occasion for it observed the 200th anniversary of the change of Norfolk from the township founded in 1682 to a borough in 1736. The obverse is alive with enough lettering to fit onto two or three coins. The reverse is complex as well and is highlighted by an illustration of the Royal Mace of Norfolk. If you ever wondered what this archaic artifact looked like, study this coin. Pop 147, none finer (PCGS # 9337) .
Estimated Value $1,200 - 1,300.
