Kruger, Otto - Used Meerschaum Pipe. 4 in. long; bowl is ¾ in. across. Used. The pipe is in the shape of a hunting horn atop of which is carved a hunter on his way home carrying a rabbit and a brace of pheasants. Amber lucite stem. In original scuffed burgundy leather case which has a coat of arms and "Best Quality Vienna Meerschaum" written in German.

Meerschaum means "sea foam" in German. It is hydrous magnesium silicate, a creamy white stone composed of the fossilized shells of small sea creatures and is mined in Turkey and Tanzania. Pipes have been carved from Meerscahum since the early 18th century. The light, porous material lends itself to artwork, as well as being a favorite of smokers.
Estimated Value $250 - 350.
From the estate of film, stage, and television actor Otto Kruger.
