Lot 617

1808 S-278 R3. VF-30 Plus. Turban Head. Sharpness very close to EF40 but there is a dull contact mark on the rim right of star 9 and another right of star 11, plus a nick on the right side of the M in AMERICA and a thin rim nick over the left edge of the adjacent E. Otherwise the surfaces are smooth and quite attractive. No roughness or verdigris, but there is some waxy crud in protected areas. Glossy chocolate brown with lots of frosty lighter steel brown toning in protected areas and hints of reddish brown tone around ONE CENT. EDS, Breen state I. The obverse is misaligned to K-7 and the reverse is off center but not quite as far to K-10. Removed from an NGC slab graded AU55BN (the NGC label is included, and it shows the attribution and Rasmussen provenance).
Estimated Value $2,000 - 3,000.
