Lot 473

1839 N-14 R3 PCGS graded MS66RB. MS-66 Red & Brown. Booby Head. Frosty mint red fading to bluish steel brown and light chocolate, about two-thirds of the faded mint color remaining. The only marks are a few tiny specks of darker toning sprinkled about, including a couple on the forehead, one at the upper lip, and another under the right foot of the M in AMERICA. The numerous microscopic die lines on the cheek are clear. Great eye appeal, a choice red and brown cent. LDS with the peripheral legends starting to weaken from die wear. The bar from the dentils over the R in AMERICA is gone. Called MS67 and CC#1 in the Bland census. Noyes says MS65 and tied for CC#1, his photo #27198. Our grade is MS65. PCGS Population 1; none finer.
Estimated Value $10,000-UP.
Ex Bowers & Merena 11/84:2053-Tony Terranova-Herman Halpern, Stack's 3/16/88:539-John J. Nicholas, Superior 2/2/92:624.
