Lot 462

1839 N-9 R2 PCGS graded MS64BN. PCGS graded MS-64 Brown. Silly Head. Lustrous steel and light olive brown with frosty lighter steel brown toning in protected areas. Attractive flowline luster covers the fields on both sides and there are no significant defects visible to the unaided eye. However, under magnification you can find a hairline scratch along the lower edge of the jaw, another down the front edge of the neck, and a third along the lower edge of the bust over the date. M-LDS with the obverse die cracks well advanced. The parallel diagonal die lines up to the left from star 7 are very dull but remain visible. The die crack passing down the cheek and neck show several small lumps where small chips of the die have flaked away. Called MS60 and tied for CC#16 in the Noyes census, his photo #36391. Our grade is MS60 net AU58. PCGS Population 1; 2 finer in 66BN.
Estimated Value $2,000-UP.
Ex Bob McAusland 12/58-Emanuel Taylor 10/60.
