Lot 946

1936 Gettysburg Half Dollar. NGC graded MS-65. Struck to commemorate the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Battle of Gettysburg, considered the turning point in the Civil War. This coin was authorized in 1936, coined in 1937 and sold in 1938 at a reunion for the surviving members that fought in the battle July 1-3, 1862. The event was important enough that President Roosevelt showed up to light the eternal flame of the peace memorial. An untoned, flashy commemorative that is difficult to locate in gem condition.
