1872-CC $20 Liberty. NGC graded AU-58. One of the finest survivors of this rare date, the original mintage of 26,900 was decimated by time and attrition. As is the rule on early Carson City double eagles, the surfaces show moderate bagmarks from circulation and from shipping. NGC has only graded 13 this high, with a single coin graded in mint state, PCGS hasn't yet graded any in mint state. Therefore, this is obviously one of the very finest survivors of this rare date. Some luster resides near the stars, but most has been abraded away by contact. An important coin in any grade, and worthy of a top price in such lofty condition.
