Graeco-Egyptian. Roman Period Gold "Snake"Bracelet. Circa 1st Century B.C.-A.D. 3rd Century. Well hammer-ornamented, a coiled snake with tail tapering is structured into an armband/ bracelet. The rage of high fashion in hellenistic times, the realistic elements vividly contrast with the decorative. A similar example can be found and described in Grieschischer Goldsmuck/ Pforzheim, by Deppert-Lippitz, plate XXIV. 2.64 in. (67.07 cm. in width), 2 in. high. Weight: 54.3 grams.
